Lessons 7-15
Days 7-11
Students will view videos of a musical performance on iPads. In small groups, students will use the Perfect Video app to create subtitles for the videos to describe the moods and musical changes happening in the video. They will then peer assess the subtitles using a checklist.
Days 12-15
The teacher will continue to model by showing her sentence(s) that use the well-developed musical descriptions to support the mood so that the students have several ideas on which to model their writing. Students will listen to a short selection of music, and determine the mood, writing it in their journals, using as many adjectives as possible. They will then be presented with a variety of correct and incorrect musical descriptions developed by the teacher. The descriptions will use adjective and adverbs that describe the musical terminology, and the students will select the correct descriptions and write them in their journals. The students will then use the correct musical descriptions to write their own well-developed musical sentences to support the mood.
Students will also be given a writing checklist to guide and focus their writing.
